funny people

a look at the life of a stand-up comedian who got caught up in the trappings of his own popularity as he tries to go back to his roots.  its one of the rare adam sandler movies where he actually tries to act a bit and he does it very well.  my one complaint about the film is that it is trying to tell two different stories: the redemption of a has-been, and the story of a family trying to deal with divorce and remarriage.  i feel it would have been more successful if it had focused on one instead of both.  this is a two and a half hour movie for no good reason!  with a clearer focus it could have been much better.
