blades of glory

this film is a pretty good example why casting is so important. the material itself is quite flat, but because the film has such a great cast, it rises above it (well, barely...) and turns out to be a pretty funny film. its about two ice skaters who are worst enemies, but when they are kicked out of the professional sport, they must rely on each other to reenter in couples skating. with will ferrell and jon header as the two leads, they perfectly play the macho big-egoed buffoon and then nervous rich prissy boy who hate each other so much! we even have some great supporting players with will arnett and amy pohler, along with the best of all: jenna fisher! most of the film is pretty lame and the situations are predictable and obvious, but there are some really great bits in it because of the obvious improve by the actors. and for some reason when will ferrell gets mad but can only use pg rated words, it becomes the funniest thing ever! in this particular dvd there are also a bunch of really funny extras, like outtakes, alternate takes, interviews with the characters (not the actors, but the actors continuing to play the part- very funny!). a pretty good movie that is funnier than i would have thought going in.
