this old classic is the first film from director quentin tarantino. it shows off his directing style of grizzly violence and quick dialog. when the film starts we join the gang of criminals as they eat breakfast before a big heist. after the opening credits we join them again after the score goes south. they meet up at the designated location and one of them has been shot. as he lays dying, the rest of them try to figure out what they should do about it, not wanting to get caught. they begin to suspect that one of the men is actually an undercover cop, and they begin to plunge deeper and deeper into chaos as they question and grill each other. no longer trusting one another, the stakes are raised as their tempers flare up. flashbacks show us what happened leading up to the heist and who we should or shouldnt trust. as things begin to boil over, a cop shows up and he is captured and tortured. the dialog is quick and witty, each character's motivations become clear, and we see them arrive at the unfortunate, but inevitable, conclusion. a tense film that doesnt pull any punches. the clever mind behind 'pulp fiction' and other great films starts to come into focus on this film.
