terminator salvation

i finally got around to seeing this one and i dont understand what all the hatred for this movie is all about. there have been so many people complaining about it and saying how bad it is. i dont know, for what it was, it was pretty good. maybe after all the negative buzz ive been hearing about it i went in with really lowered expectations. the story, which is basically just a fill-in-the-gaps look at what the war with the machines looked like after the judgement day they kept eluding to in terminator 2 and 3. the details of this look at the war follows john connor as he tries to lead the resistance and track down kyle reese, his father. there is also a strange story that follows sam worthington through understanding what has happened to him. everyone does a pretty good job in this, especially the guy playing reese, and of course sam worthington (i forsee him becoming a really really huge star, mark my words...), they both just draw you in and make you care about their journeys. also, the special effects are really really cool! at times it really seemed like they were trying to turn terminator into transformers with the size and scale of the robots involved. the film didn't really seem to fit very well into the terminator mythology or style of the first three films. those were more action/chase films where they are just trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys. this one, on the other hand, felt more like a war/rescue movie. as i understand it, if the film had been a success there were plans on making this the start of a whole new trilogy. unfortunately, this will most likely be the end of the line for the terminator franchise. with an unsuccessful tv show that just got cancelled, to this failure, its sad to say that the terminator's story will not continue.
